AI agents can act across websites and blockchain applications, yet users often have no shared way to prove which agent they are dealing with or review its history. ERC-8004, called “Trustless Agents,” is an Ethereum application-layer standard for agent identity, reputation, and validation. It is not a tradable token or a protocol-level change to Ethereum consensus.
The Standard Solves An Identity Problem
People use identification, references, and reviews when deciding whom to trust. Autonomous agents need a machine-readable equivalent that works across organizations.
ERC-8004 defines three registries. Applications can use them to discover an agent, inspect feedback, and connect its work with independent validation without relying solely on one platform’s private database.
The standard emerged through Ethereum’s application-standard process with contributors associated with MetaMask, the Ethereum Foundation, Google, and Coinbase. Its core registries reached Ethereum mainnet in January 2026, while specification materials have continued to describe the proposal as draft.
Identity Registry: Who Is The Agent?
The Identity Registry uses an ERC-721-style token as a persistent identifier. That identity can point to an agent card containing its name, capabilities, service endpoints, credentials, and payment address.
This does not mean the identity is a speculative NFT. The token functions as a registration object that applications can reference.
For an AI memecoin launchpad, an identity could sign a proposal, evidence package, risk assessment, or launch manifest. Users could verify which agent produced the file and whether its registered details changed.
Reputation Registry: What Has It Done?
The Reputation Registry lets users or counterparties submit structured feedback. A service could record successful tasks, disputed evidence, rejected proposals, policy violations, or contract mismatches.

- Structured user feedback
- Cross-platform discoverability
- Easier suspension after violations
Reputation is vulnerable to fake reviews and Sybil accounts. One empirical study reported that coordinated behavior affected many reviewers across observed deployments, showing why raw scores need filtering and context.
Validation Registry: Who Checked The Work?
The Validation Registry provides hooks for independent checks. Those checks could use re-execution, trusted hardware, zero-knowledge proofs, contract simulation, or another validator design.
For AI presale crypto, a validator might attest that token supply, fixed-rate funding round terms, wallet limits, and deployed code match an approved file.
Validation does not prove a memecoin will succeed. It records that a defined check occurred under stated conditions. Users must read what was tested, the software version, and the validator.
What ERC-8004 Cannot Do
An identified agent can still use false evidence, misunderstand context, or propose a harmful token. A reputation registry can contain manipulated reviews. A validation record can test the wrong question.
ERC-8004 cannot replace source verification, human oversight, multisig approval, restricted keys, wallet limits, or contract audits. It provides accountability infrastructure, not investment protection.
How MemeToro Relates To The Standard
MemeToro lists ERC-8004 identity and reputation integration on its public roadmap. That work is planned, not shipped.
BNB Smart Chain is EVM compatible, making an Ethereum application standard technically portable. Future users should still verify registry addresses, signing authority, agent-card metadata, reputation rules, and validation methods.
